One of the largest economics publications in Taiwan is reporting that the local metal chassis producer Catcher has been tasked with making bodies for the upcoming Galaxy S5. The first time we heard that Catcher is in the mix for Samsung’s 2014 flagship, was back in September, when firms were supposed to submit their bidding so Samsung can choose suppliers.

That moment has apparently resulted in Samsung leaning towards Catcher for the December production of Samsung Galaxy S5’s metal chassis, as the publication is reporting that the premium material is now a done deal, marking a huge change for Samsung, and perhaps the beginning of its Design 3.0 phase. Last time we heard Catcher was allegedly been asked for procuring 10 to 30 million chassis units, and now we learn that the rest will be eventually going to the Chinese BYD and Taiwan’s Ju-Teng companies.

Catcher is the company behind masterpieces like the aluminum unibody of the HTC One, which just got our Design of the Year Award, plus Apple’s iPad mini 2 and MacBook Air housings, so we can rest assured that Samsung is in good hands, and can’t wait to see the upcoming Galaxy S5 design. There are rumors of two versions, depending on the processor – Snapdragon or 64-bit Exynos – thus it’s possible that the more premium S5 version will carry the metal frame, so the next two or three months should form a true leak bonanza.
