Note 5 Rumors

A new report from PhoneArena claims the Galaxy Note 5 will feature an Ultra HD display with a resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels.

Specifically, the Galaxy Note 5 may pack a 5.89-inch UHD screen, giving it an insanely high 748 pixels per inch (ppi). Meanwhile, the rumored Galaxy Note 5 Edge will allegedly feature a slightly smaller 5.78-inch display. That means it could pack in 762 pixels per inch.

Based on these rumors, the Galaxy Note 5 and its Edge variant will boast the highest resolution smartphone displays we’ve ever seen. We’re still not totally convinced any of this will actually happen though, and it’s unclear what practical advantages UHD might have over today’s Quad HD displays. More pixels may sound nice, but it could mean less battery life or a more expensive handset. Stay tunes for more rumors and updates!

LG Optimus L9 II smartphone exposed again

It looks like the rumored LG Optimus L9 II smartphone is pretty real. Several months ago, a spy photo of it was leaked on the internet, along with a handful of hardware specs, and now we’ve come across a clearer image exposing the front and back sides of the device. And while today’s leak doesn’t add much to what we already know about the handset, it boosts the chances of it being made official in the very near future.

Once it is unveiled, the LG Optimus L9 II (or LG L9 II, perhaps?) will become the top smartphone in LG’s second-gen L-series. It will sport a 4.7-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720 by 1280 pixels, which sounds pretty good for what’s surely going to be a mid-range handset. A dual-core Qualcomm SoC is also in play, most likely a Snapdragon 400, paired with 1GB of RAM. Further specs include an 8MP main camera, 1.3MP front-facing one, 8GB of storage, microSD card slot, 2150mAh battery, and Android 4.1.2 out of the box. Overall, a pretty solid package given the smartphone’s class.

While we aren’t sure when the LG Optimus L9 II will be announced, chances are the company might make it official in time for the IFA 2013 expo in Berlin.

A published report on Monday cites a source as saying that the Samsung Galaxy Note III will be shipping out on week 36 (September 2-8) with the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch in transit during week 40 (September 30-October 6). The source added that depending on the region, there could be a one week delay. Both devices are expected to be introduced during a Samsung Unpacked event in Berlin on September 4th. That is just a couple of days before the IFA 2013 show in Berlin opens.

The report also mentions that Samsung has decided to scrap the 16GB model of the Samsung Galaxy Note III. Instead, the 32GB and 64GB models will be available. You might remember that some purchasers of the 16GB Samsung Galaxy S4 complained that they had less than 9GB of storage on the phone after bloatware was taken into account.

We’d advise you to be a bit skeptical about the shipping dates because they are not official. The good news is that it won’t be long until September 4th at which time we will know what Samsung has in mind in terms of launching the next iteration of its phablet and its smartwatch. With the Apple iWatch said to be delayed, introducing its watch before Apple unveils the iWatch could give the Korean based OEM an advantage with this next generation of smartwatches that it never had with smartphones or tablets.
